The funniest sketch on last night’s SNL was definitely the New Jersey “fountainry” commercial, which awesomely reprised Scarlett Johansson’s brilliantly flat, deadpan Jersey princess. But, true to mediocre form, they didn’t post that one online. So instead, let’s discuss the EPIC FAIL above.

Up until its big celebrity reveal, the “Deep House Dish” sketch wasn’t that bad. Kristen Wiig, of course, was hilarious. But then they had to bring out Lady Gaga and Madonna. And while I’m usually thrilled to see Madonna, she really stunk up the joint. She probably thought she was acting cool by deigning to appear alongside a Madonnawannabe like Gaga, but she actually ended up looking considerably worse than her. Except physically. It’s no compliment to Gaga that a 51-year-old woman looked much hotter than her.

However, Gaga trumped Madge in pretty much every other way. Over the course of the episode, she proved herself to be a superior vocalist, musician, and (obviously) actor to Madonna. It’s sad but true. Madonna isn’t dealing with just another Britney here. And while I seriously doubt Gaga will have her longevity, Madonna should probably try stepping up her game a bit more the next time she wants to publicly challenge Gaga to a diva-off.
