Here is the official video for “Make Me,” the new track Janet Jackson recorded to spruce up her latest best-of, Number Ones. I think this is a fun, funky song, but I don’t love this video. Janet’s styling is…off. The choreography is a bit clunky, or maybe it’s just what she’s wearing. I appreciate that she didn’t diet herself into oblivion before filming, and she looks lovely in that sense. It’s also nice to see her in black & white again, which she hasn’t really done since the Rhythm Nation days. If there’s any diva career I’d like to see get back on track, it’s Janet.

This cover is kinda old news by now, but it happened during my recent blog silence and I love it too much not to share. This is a fantastic cover of one of the best songs of 2009, from my personal pick for album of the year, Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors.

Solange has inexplicably aligned herself with Brooklyn’s ever-expanding lineup of A-list indie acts (she is the reason Jay-Z and Beyoncé were in attendance at an outdoor Grizzly Bear concert a few months ago), and on this track she takes an already brilliant song and takes it to the next level. Enjoy.
